■ ​概要

「抽象踏査」は、6名の現代日本抽象作家を、その制作実践と環境との直接的な遭遇を通して紹介する展覧会である。昨夏、日本各地を巡るリサーチを経て企画された本展は、抽象を固定された様式やカテゴリーとしてではなく、物質・身体・思考・哲学が交差する生成のプロセスとして捉え直すことを試みる。

絵画、彫刻、陶芸、テキスタイル、ドローイングといった多様な表現を通じ、作家たちは制作行為が場所や時間、環境との関係性のなかで立ち上がるものであることを提示する。本展は、抽象表現の現在地を探ると同時に、実験と思想が交差する創造の現場を提示するものである。

■ 中屋敷 智生

1977年大阪生まれ。京都在住。

 

中屋敷の鮮やかで多彩な色彩は、ひと目見ただけで驚きや戸惑いを呼び起こすかもしれない。しかし彼が色覚特性をもっていることを知ると、その実践は創造的な大胆さとして立ち現れ、見るという行為そのものへの新たな驚きを喚起する。明度や色彩理論を手がかりに絵具を選び取りながら制作される作品群は、私たちに「見ること」の幅を体感させ、その意味をあらためて問い直させる。

近年は、従来の絵具に加えてマスキングテープを素材として用い、コラージュのような層や質感を生み出している。画面と支持体の関係が絶えず揺れ動くこの手法を通して、視覚的に対象を認識することの不確かさを探り、絵画と鑑賞者という二項対立を超えた可能性を模索している。

私たちが絵画を見るとき、同時に絵画からも見られている。見る／見られるという立場は絶えず交換され続ける。中屋敷にとってそれは呼吸にも似ている。吸うことと吐くことの反復が私たちをこの世界につなぎとめているように、その往還のなかに世界との接続がある。そこには、「主体」と「客体」という対立を越えた可能性がある。思考や判断に先立つ、「あるがままの経験」として、両者が未分化のまま立ち現れる状態である。

京都精華大学美術学部洋画分野卒業。日本およびアジア各地で精力的に発表を続ける。アーティスト・ランのオルタナティブスペース「Alt Space POST」の運営や、絵画を再考するキュレーションプロジェクトにも携わっている。

主な展覧会に、「ライフライン」（茨木市福祉文化会館、大阪、2025年）、「みるものたち | 中屋敷智生 × 光島貴之」（BUG、東京、2025年）、「内と肉」（YIRI ARTS、台北、2024年）、「明日ま、た明、日また明日と小きざ、みな足、取りで一、日一、日を歩む」（KOKI ARTS、東京、2023年）など。2025年にはHaghirian Art Foundationの助成を受け、オーストリア・グラーツにてレジデンスを行う。作品は国内外の公共および個人コレクションに収蔵されている。

■ ​Exhibition Overview

抽象 = Abstract.

踏査 = Field survey.

Chūshō Tōsa 抽象踏査 presents six contemporary Japanese artists working in abstraction, approached through direct encounters with their practices and environments. Developed following a research journey across Japan last summer, the exhibition reflects on abstraction as a lived, material, and philosophical process rather than a fixed category.

Through painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and drawing, the artists navigate an intersection of experimentation and thought, where the act of making is inseparable from reflection and place.

■ Tomonari Nakayashiki

Born in Osaka, 1977. Currently lives and works in Kyoto.

 

At first, Nakayashiki’s vivid and varied palette of colours may surprise, confuse or confound. When learning about his colour-blindness though, the practice speaks creative boldness and evokes perceptive awe. Selecting paint based on brightness and colour theory, Nakayashiki creates a body of work in which we experience the breadth of seeing, and revalue what it means to see.

 

In recent years, Nakayashiki presents paintings employing masking tape as a medium alongside traditional paints, creating collage-like layers and textures. Through this technique, where the relationship between surface and base remains fluid and constantly shifting, he explores the uncertainty inherent in visually recognising subjects and investigates painting's potential beyond the traditional dualism of painting and viewer.

 

We as art viewers are simultaneously being observed by the paintings; both parties perpetually exchange the positions of 'seeing' and 'being seen'. For Nakayashiki, this is akin to breathing – the repeated cycle of inhaling and exhaling that unites us, maintaining our connection to this world. With this awareness, he finds a potential state beyond the opposition of 'subjectivity' and 'objectivity', where both remain undifferentiated – that is, in 'experience as it is', unmediated by deliberation or judgement.

 

Nakayashiki holds a BFA in Western Painting from Kyoto Seika University. Exhibited extensively in Japan and Asia, he is also engaged in Alt Space POST, an artist-run alternative space, and curatorial projects rethinking painting.

 

Past major exhibitions include Lifeline at Ibaraki City Welfare and Culture Centre, Osaka, 2025; Tomonari Nakayashiki × Takayuki Mitsushima <The Ones Who See> at BUG, Tokyo, 2025; Inside and Flesh at YIRI ARTS, Taipei, Taiwan, 2024; and To-morrow andto-morrow-and tomorrow, Creeps inthis petty-pace from-day today at KOKI ARTS, Tokyo, 2023. In 2025, he received a grant from the Haghirian Art Foundation and undertook a residency in Graz, Austria. Nakayashiki’s works are represented in numerous public and private collections.
